Harmony of Tradition and Modernity — A Wholly New Tatami
STUDIO THE BLUE BOY's Wavy Gradient Tatami is crafted from 100% natural Igusa (rush grass), reinterpreting traditional Japanese tatami through a contemporary perspective.
Moving beyond the conventional rectangular form, its distinctive design combines flowing curves and circular shapes inspired by our signature Wavy Gradient Rug.
Traditionally, creating curved forms using Igusa and the tatami core was considered extremely difficult. In collaboration with Ikehiko Corporation, a long-established tatami manufacturer in Fukuoka founded in 1886, we developed this unique design by incorporating woodworking techniques not typically used in traditional tatami production.
In Okawa City, Fukuoka, one of Japan's leading furniture-making regions, the distinctive structure is carefully shaped and assembled. The natural Igusa is dyed by skilled artisans, creating a beautiful gradation of color.
Igusa is believed to have been introduced to Japan from China more than 1,400 years ago. Its natural breathability and ability to help regulate humidity and absorb odors have made it an essential material in Japanese living spaces for centuries.
While the traditional form of tatami has remained largely unchanged, STUDIO THE BLUE BOY brings a new perspective to this timeless material.
The Miniature Wavy Tatami translates this craftsmanship into a smaller, decorative object. Perfect for displaying treasured belongings, ceramics, fragrances, or everyday objects, it introduces the warmth and texture of natural Igusa into even the smallest spaces.
Description
Made with high-quality, dyed Igusa grown in Kyushu, Japan. The Igusa is woven on a jacquard loom and carefully assembled by layering the woven surface, core material, and non-slip backing.
Each piece is individually crafted, preserving the natural character and delicate texture of the material.

Care Instructions
- Before use, gently wipe the surface with a dry cloth to remove any residual dye or natural finishing material.
- Keep the product in a well-ventilated, relatively dry environment.
- Clean gently along the direction of the weave using a vacuum cleaner or soft broom.
- If water is spilled, immediately absorb it with tissue paper or a dry cloth. Avoid rubbing, as this may cause uneven coloration.
- If a strand of Igusa becomes loose, carefully trim it near the base and gently smooth the surrounding fibers.

- As this product is made from natural materials, slight variations in shape, dimensions, texture, and color may occur.

Customs Duties, VAT & Import Taxes
All international orders are shipped on a DDU / DAP basis. Customs duties, VAT, and import taxes are determined by the laws of the destination country and are the responsibility of the customer.
United States: Shipments from Japan to the United States may be subject to applicable customs duties, import taxes, and customs processing fees. These charges depend on the product classification, country of origin, customs value, and current U.S. trade regulations.
European Union / United Kingdom: Shipments to the EU or UK may be subject to VAT and other import fees. These charges vary based on the regulations of each country.
Other Countries: Customs duties, VAT, and import fees are determined by local customs authorities and must be paid by the recipient.
If customs fees are not paid and a shipment is returned to Japan, the refund will be issued minus a fee equal to twice the original shipping cost to cover outbound and return freight charges.

STUDIO THE BLUE BOYの 「Wavy Gradient Tatami （ウェービー・グラディエント・タタミ）」は、 自然素材であるイグサを100％使用し、 現代の感性で再解釈した全く新しい形状の畳です。
従来のシンプルな四角形の畳とは異なり、 ウェービーな曲線と円を組み合わせた、 STUDIO THE BLUE BOYのシグネチャーデザイン 「Wavy Gradient Rug」を畳として表現しました。
これまで、イグサを畳の芯材である畳床に 曲線状に形成することは非常に難しいとされていました。 そのため、1886年創業の福岡県の老舗畳メーカー、 イケヒコ・コーポレーションの協力のもと、 通常の畳製作工程にはない木工技術を取り入れ、 この独特な形状を実現しました。
日本有数の家具産地である福岡県大川市で、 特殊な形状に加工し、天然イグサを丁寧に形成。 さらに、職人の手によって染め上げられたイグサが、 美しいグラデーションを生み出します。
イグサは1400年以上前に中国から日本へ 伝来したと言われています。 天然イグサの持つ調湿作用や消臭効果は、 四季のある日本の気候に適しており、 日本独自の生活文化とともに発展してきました。
しかし、長い歴史の中で畳の形状は ほとんど変わっていません。 その変わらなかったデザインに、 STUDIO THE BLUE BOYが新たな命を吹き込みます。
「Miniature Wavy Tatami」は、 その伝統的な技術と現代的なデザインを、 より身近な小さなサイズへと落とし込んだものです。

表面全体を乾拭きし、「漆土」や「染料」を 落としてからご使用ください。 -
② 適度な換気
できるだけ乾燥したお部屋でご使用いただき、 天気の良い日にはお部屋の換気を行ってください。 -
③ お掃除
織り目に沿って、掃除機や箒を使い、 丁寧に清掃してください。 -
④ 水をこぼした場合
ティッシュペーパーなどで速やかに 水分を吸い取ってください。 強く擦ると色むらの原因となりますので ご注意ください。 -
⑤ イグサが飛び出した場合
飛び出したイグサを根元からカットし、 指で周囲に馴染ませてください。 それ以上のほつれを防ぐことができます。
